AYDE ATKINS WINS 2016 NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL FINALS RODEO REINED COW HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP
Jayde Atkins, 18, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, celebrated a gratifying end to her High School Rodeo career when she won the Reined Cow Horse Championship at the 2016 National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming.
“I don’t think it’s quite hit me yet,” Atkins said, when asked how she felt about being a National Champion. I’m still in in the ‘Ah, is this real?’ stage. But it’s cool so far! Because it’s the last time I get to compete at the high school level, and having good memories, all that’s pretty awesome.”

U.S. Reining Team Shows Strongly at 2016 SVAG FEI World Reining Championships
Givrins, Switzerland – The U.S. Reining team delivered a great display of showmanship at the 2016 SVAG FEI World Reining Championships, August 11-13, at the CS Ranch in Givrins, Switzerland. Team members Shane Brown, Troy Heikes, Kari Klingenberg, and Nick Valentine all had consistent performances throughout the Team and Individual competitions. They finished fifth in the team competition with a score of 646. Heikes placed seventh in the Individual Final on Saturday to lead the U.S. contingent.

Video Submissions Are Being Accepted for The 2016 NRHA Invitational Freestyle Reining Sponsored by the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau
Oklahoma City, Okla – July 18, 2016 - The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) is pleased to announce the return of the freestyle event during the 2016 NRHA Futurity. The $20,000 added NRHA Invitational Freestyle, sponsored by the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be held on November 30, 2016 at 6 p.m.
NRHA will be selecting four out of the ten riders from social media to participate in this exciting spectator sport! A contest based on popular vote will be held to determine the riders. To be eligible, you just have to be a current NRHA member in good standing!

JAY MCLAUGHLIN JOINS NRCHA MILLION DOLLAR RIDERS CLUB
The National Reined Cow Horse Association’s list of top money earners continues to grow, as professional horseman Jay McLaughlin passes the seven-figure milestone to become the 12th NRCHA Million Dollar Rider. As of July 13, 2016, McLaughlin’s earnings were $1,005,275.69.
“Among horse trainers, the Million Dollar Rider is an awesome title. It’s cool to be at the very top, and it’s an honor I have always wanted to have,” McLaughlin said.

The European Affiliate Championship in Poland are a great success!
Stare Zukovice, July 9 – For the first time the NRHA European Affiliate Championship was held in Eastern Europe. The event was a truly successful one with 130 qualified riders vying for the ten EA Championship titles and counted close to 400 entries. Host of the event was the beautiful Roleski Ranch owned by the Roleski family. Next year the Championship will return to Poland.

A Sparkling Vintage Becomes NRHA’s Newest Million Dollar Sire During the 2016 NRHA Derby

During the 2016 NRHA Derby, A Sparking Vintage reached the Million Dollar milestone when his two highest ranking offspring, Not Ruf At All and Platinum Vintage, made it into the top ten. A Sparkling Vintage is the 27th NRHA Million Dollar Sire alongside other great sires such as Starlights Wrangler and Like a Diamond.

The First NRHA European Affiliate Champions are Crowned!
Opening the day was the Classic Equine $500-added NRHA EAC Rookie Professional final. Sliding to the highest step of the podium after scoring a 214.5, was Jamie Meeuwissen riding Wimpys Snow Step (Wimpys Little Step x Snow Gun), an 8-year-old gelding owned by Steve Vannietvelt and Gina De Pauw of Belgium. The 23-year-old trainer from The Netherlands also placed third with Dutch Wouter Van Schaverbeke’s Arcletic Turbocat (ARC King Cody x Mtd Catalunya Smoke), also and 8-year-old gelding. Second place honors were claimed by Johan Fridberger of Sweden riding Anna Pettersson’s Mega Jac Dance (Marthas Mega Jac x BH Song And Dance), a 14-year-old stallion.

Leading National Reined Cow Horse Association professional Todd Bergen, Eagle Point, Oregon, added another Premier Event title to his impressive resume when he guided Some Kinda Merada (Cats Merada x Ima Fern Believer x Peptoboonsmal) to the NRCHA Derby Open Championship.
Bergen and the 2011 mare, owned by Cable Creek Ranch, Aurora, Oregon, earned $30,767 when they scored a 670.5 (218 herd/225.5 rein/227 cow).

ANNE ALBERT WINS 2016 NRCHA DERBY NON PRO LIMITED CHAMPIONSHIP
Cliffhanger, thriller, close call, photo finish – any number of suspenseful adjectives could accurately describe the road to the Derby Non Pro Limited Championship for Anne Albert of Roy, Washington. It involved a tie, followed by another tie, the possibility of a co-Championship, and finally, a cow work-off to decide the title once and for all.
“I’ve always wanted to come to this horse show, and to come here the first time and win it – I’m ecstatic,” Albert said.
After the first two events, the rein work and herd work, Albert and her gelding, White Knight Time (One Time Pepto x Little Lady Stylish x Smart Little Uno), were tied for first place with Erin Mendes and Recklessly Abandoned (Smart Little Pepinic x Wright Now Ima Star x Lenas Wright On). Both riders had 424.5 composite scores. A third rider, Linda Wood, was just a half-point behind them heading into the third phase, the cow work.

SONYA DISTEFANO WINS 2016 NRCHA DERBY AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
When Sonya DiStefano wrapped up her preliminary runs, scoring a 632.5 at the 2016 NRCHA Derby, she not only qualified for the Novice Non Pro finals – she also earned the Amateur Championship!
DiStefano, a 17-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is showing in her first NRCHA Premier Limited Age Event on her first derby horse, who she has only been riding for a couple of months – but she didn’t let the pressure keep her from shining in the show pen.
“I was intimidated and nervous to come here for the first time, because I haven’t showed in a big derby, just our local ones. I just showed my horse like I did at home, and he was good,” the polite, soft-spoken teen said.

NRCHA DERBY REIN WORK PRELIMS & NON PRO HERD WORK PRELIMS COMPLETE
The second day of preliminaries at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Jack and Phoebe Cooke Memorial Derby wrapped up Tuesday, June 14, at the Paso Robles Event Center. The rein work prelims for the Open divisions are now complete, and Non Pro competitors have shown in two events, the rein work and herd work.

In the Open rein work, two horses earned 224 scores to share the lead in the go-round. On Monday, Some Kinda Merada (Cats Merada x Ima Fern Believer x Peptoboonsmal), a 2011 mare shown by NRCHA 2 Million Dollar Rider Todd Bergen for owner Cable Creek Ranch LLC, scored a 224 to top the leader board. On Tuesday, the second 224 score came from Smooth Bellingrath (Smooth As A Cat x Very Special Peppy x Peppy San Badger), a 2011 stallion shown by Nick Dowers for his family’s Triple D Ranches LLC.

Day one of the Wild Card Reining Challenge
The 2016 Wild Card Reining Challenge burst on the Reining scene this morning in Las Vegas, Nevada bringing with it the Four-Year-Old Futurity … an idea whose time has finally come! This brand new show, running over Memorial Day weekend, May 25th through 29th at the South Point Event Center, Hotel and Casino, is the newest of the four major reining competitions presented annually by the Scottsdale, Arizona-based Brumley Management Group, LLC.

APHA Rewards Paints at 2016 National Reining Breeders Classic
FORT WORTH, Texas – For the third consecutive year, high-scoring registered Paint Horses and their exhibitors took home beautiful trophy buckles at the National Reining Breeders Classic, thanks to APHA. The show, which took place April 17–24 in Katy, Texas, is one of the nation’s richest National Reining Horse Association-approved events, boasting purses exceeding $1 million.
Four Paints ended up in the Top 10 of the prestigious Open Classic Finals with impressive scores exceeding 226.5. According to show management, approximately one-third of all horses showing this year were Paint-bred, most of which were already registered through APHA. Five horses eligible for APHA registration papers joined the family at the NRBC, thanks to on-site registration options, and one—Yes Ima Gunner—even took home a buckle in the Youth division, thanks to the last-minute decision.
