2005 BAYER SELECT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - PATTY POTENTIAL

“Patty won!” Someone called out from the crowd.
That is, Miss Potential Zip, “Patty,” and her accomplished owner/rider, Ann Admonius, won. They won the 2005 Bayer Select world championship in western pleasure on Thursday, September 1.
Patty is a multiple World show qualifier, has more than $12,000 in National Snaffle Bit Association earnings and placed sixth in the western pleasure finals at last year’s Select World. But she’d never won a world championship before now.
“I acquired her two years ago,” Admonius said outside the Amarillo National Center. “I had another mare that passed away, and Robbie and Joan Schroeder called me and told me they had a mare that would replace her.
“I went down and rode her for about five minutes, and wrote a check. She was beautiful. I loved her disposition. When they loped off, I absolutely fell in love with her. She’s just the same day-in and day-out. She’s just been a pleasure.”
From Ocala, Florida, Admonius also enjoys competing in halter and reining. In her opinion, they each offer something unique.
“Western pleasure requires so much skill on the part of the horse,” she said. “They have to do things perfectly and at a slow rate.” She smiled, “There’s something pretty about a pleasure horse going down that rail with their ears forward, and you’re just sitting there, and she’s going with you. It feels good. I love every second of it.”
“And I love this show!” she added. “This is the best thing (AQHA has) ever done. The camaraderie here, getting to go down to the headquarters, the office and the Heritage Center: it’s a definite plus. I’ve talked to so many people that said that they’d finally been able to put a face on AQHA (because of this show).”
If you ask her what the key was to this world championship for Patty and herself, she has one quick answer.
“(Trainer) Shane Dowdy. He has been a master for me. He’s been there every step of the way.
“Shane fits the program to the horse,” Admonius continued. “He lets them be horses. He may take them out and do rollbacks, or use the flag, or go with them on cattle. When it gets to pleasure, that’s easy (for them) then. He loves the animals. He’s very kind to them.”
Miss Potential Zip is by Potential Investment and out of Surely Sheza Zippo by Zippo Pine Bar.
