THWART PROCRASTINATION
Don’t let procrastination come between you and your relationship with AQHA.
When questioned, a majority of previous AQHA members tell us that they simply forget – or put off – renewing their membership when they get the renewal notice in the mail. The newest weapon in our arsenal to help you battle procrastination is called auto-renew – a nifty little computer program that securely stores your credit card number and automatically renews your membership on its renewal date.
For you, that means you won’t miss a single issue of America’s Horse magazine, the largest equine publication by circulation in the world; you’ll continually be eligible for AQHA’s corporate partner offers, like Ford's $500 purchase incentive; and you'll get great DVD discounts.
If you are a current AQHA member, click here to securely provide us with your credit card number. We will not charge your card until it’s time for your membership to renew. If you decide you want out of the program, we’ll miss you, but just tell us and we’ll cancel it at any time. Oh, and the best part of all, you’ll have your current membership renewal fee locked in for three years even if fees go up.
Sign up for auto-renew and you won’t ever have to remember to renew your AQHA membership – ever.

AMERICA'S HORSE POLL

TAKE A SHOT AT MOSQUITOES
A recent outbreak of Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis in Florida is a strong reminder to horse owners throughout the country to vaccinate their horses against this and other dangerous mosquito-borne diseases. To ensure your horse receives the most complete protection, AQHA Corporate Partner Fort Dodge Animal Health offers West Nile-Innovator + EWT – “The Mosquito Shot,” the only vaccine that protects against West Nile virus, EEE and Western Equine Encephalomyelitis, plus tetanus, in one convenient vaccine.
YOU'RE TOO LONG-WINDED
It appears that a number of you need a lesson in writing shorter. At last count, nearly one-third of the entries we've received for the "Fix My Horse" contest have had to be DQ'd because the essays were more than 100 words long! If you entered an essay that was longer than 100 words, it's not too late to start over and send in another entry to the contest.
MARKING TIME
The American Quarter Horse Foundation Historical Marker Program will dedicate its 30th marker, which will commemorate the first National Cutting Horse Association-sanctioned event. The dedication will take place at 4 p.m. on April 15, during a ceremony at the Rodeo Heritage Museum in Dublin, Texas.
The first NCHA-sanctioned contest was held September 10, 1946, on the grounds of the Rodeo Heritage Museum in Dublin. Twenty-one contestants each paid a $10 entry fee while NCHA offered $200 in added money. Riding his American Quarter Horse Snooks, Jimmy Maddox took first place.
The first NCHA-sanctioned cutting paved the way for the discipline to become an official AQHA event. The success of the show was a positive sign that the fledgling NCHA would flourish. Today, more than 17,000 NCHA members, the vast majority of whom are riding American Quarter Horses, compete in 2,200 shows worldwide for more than $44 million in prize money.
MERIAL BECOMES AN
AQHA CORPORATE PARTNER
The world’s largest equine breed registry and a world leader in animal health have joined forces. Merial is now an official AQHA Corporate partner.
Three leading Merial Brand products were named as official AQHA pharmaceutical products: Gastrogard (omeprazole), Ulcergard (omeprazole) and Equioxx (firocoxib). Gastrogard and Ulcergard are the first and only FDA-approved products for the treatment and prevention of equine stomach ulcers, respectively. Equioxx is the first equine oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug to be approved in more than 20 years.
As an AQHA Corporate Partner, Merial will be a key player in helping to bring America’s Horse magazine to every AQHA member. Merial also will be the title sponsor of the distaff division of the Bank of America Racing Challenge. The Merial Distaff Championship will be contested at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana on November 8.
Plus, Merial will sponsor the 2008 World Championship Show in Oklahoma City and the 2009 Bayer Select World Championship Show in Amarillo. In 2009, Merial will be the title sponsor of the judging contests at the Ford American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show and the AQHA World Show.
