Appaloosa Dashes across Finish Line for the Win

Appaloosa gelding, Zevis Dash, found his stride in a 350-yard claiming race against Paint Horses and fellow Appaloosas at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. Mar. 24. The claiming race offered a $6,330 purse.

Appaloosa gelding, Zevis Dash, made a late sure to complete the track in 18.987 seconds for the first place win. The 3-year-old gelding won $3,842, bringing his lifetime earnings to $12,328. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa is by Zevis Scooter Bug (ApHC) out of Missy Mit Dash (AQHA), by Dashing Cleat. Zevis Dash is owned and trained by Raymond Venn of Claremore, Okla., was bred by Nicholas Schramm and was ridden by Jay Jsames.

Appaloosa mare, Tequila Queen, made an effort and earned second. The 4-year-old mare drew off under Richard Vasquez and completed the track in 18.399 seconds. Tequila Queen won $964, bringing her lifetime earnings to $22,728. The Wyoming-bred Appaloosa is by Roll The Cash (AQHA) out of Tequila Breeze (ApHC), by The Tax Ax (ApHC). Tequila Queen is owned by Harold Bailey of Atoka, Okla., bred by Kenneth Zaloudek and trained by Clifton Brooks.

Following in third was Paint Horse Bully Boy Flash. The 4-year-old Paint Horse drew off under Cody Worst and completed the track in 18.459 seconds. Bully Boy Flash won $910. The Paint Horse is owned by Harold and Regina Thomas, and is trained by Regina Thomas.

Horse who completed the track include A Day Before (ApHC), Lucky at Zbar (ApHC), Eyes Fast as You (ApHC), The Big Bad Bear (ApHC) and Flashin the Boys (APHA).

The horses who competed in this race were available for purchase for $7,500.
Appaloosa Racing

Appaloosas have long been an integral part of one of America’s most popular spectator sports—horse racing. The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) officially recognized the sport in 1962, beginning Appaloosa racing history with four races and 23 starters competing for $12,000 in total purses. In 2006, 203 starters competed in 440 races for $2,904,774 in total purses.
