The Canadian Quarter Horse Association is pleased to announce that it will host its second Annual General Meeting on Sunday, July 6, 2008. The meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Olympic Room, in the Sports Centre just steps away from the Highbury Ford Arena at the Western Fair Agriplex, 316 Rectory St., London, Ontario. The AGM is being held on the first day of the AQHA Youth World Cup to be held in London, Ontario, from July 6-13th, 2008, proudly hosted by CQHA and provincial/regional AQHA Affiliate associations.

CQHA objectives and resources, to date, have been primarily directed at organizing and fielding a team of Canadian-resident youth riders to compete at AQHA Youth World Cup events. Other priorities include annual affiliation with Equine Canada’s Breeds & Industry Division; initiating a membership outreach project directed at identifying Canadian AQHA members; and developing and launching the CQHA’s major marketing and promotional tool – the CQHA web site at: www.cqha.ca. We are also pleased to confirm that in 2008, we created and are currently in the process of distributing the inaugural CQHA Breeders Directory, which lists the outstanding breeders and AQHA Professional Horsemen of the Canadian Quarter Horse industry. Copies will be available from provincial/regional AQHA affiliates or by contacting the CQHA office.

The current CQHA Board of Directors consists of the following 13 members:

· British Columbia: Genevieve Matheson, AQHA Director Emeritus, and Gayle Pawley-Wilson, AQHA Director, and Haidee Landry.

· Alberta: Cal Loree, AQHA Director Emeritus; Ross Brigden, AQHA Director; and Shannon Burwash, AQHA Director;

· Saskatchewan: Milt Rigetti, AQHA Director

· Manitoba: Marnie Somers, AQHA Director; and Greg Little.

· Ontario: Joe Carter, AQHA Director at Large; and Patti Carter, AQHA Director

· Quebec and the Maritime provinces: Carole Joubert-Gaboury, AQHA Director at Large; and Christian Beauchemin, AQHA Director

· CQHA Executive Committee: Marnie Somers, President; Joe Carter, Vice- President; Gayle Pawley-Wilson, Secretary; and Shannon Burwash, Treasurer.

Under the CQHA’s approved Constitution and By-Laws, each provincial/regional AQHA Affiliate association may appoint a director to the CQHA Board of Directors, with the remaining Board vacancies (as Directors-at-Large) to be filled by CQHA members elected by the membership in attendance at the AGM. Eligibility to cast ballots will be confirmed to the CQHA membership database at the start of this meeting.

AQHA current members-in-good-standing are eligible to join the CQHA for no additional membership fee, by registering as a CQHA member either by completing an on-line membership application through the CQHA web site (www.cqha.ca), or by faxing or mailing a hard copy of the membership application to the CQHA office (see contact information at the top of page 1). If you have previously registered as a CQHA member at any time since 2002, there is no need to re-register, unless your contact information has changed.

CQHA “Direct” memberships are also available for a modest annual membership fee by those persons who are not currently AQHA members – visit the CQHA web site to print off a “Direct” membership application form to forward with the appropriate membership fee, or contact the CQHA office to request an application form to be mailed out or faxed.

The 2008 AQHA Youth World Cup promises to be a world class event and CQHA invites participation at every level as event sponsors, spectators, competitors, horse suppliers, trade show exhibitors, breeders, and trainers. There will be three public performances (July 8th & 9th) by Canada’s own RCMP Musical Ride during the week, with the Canadian Cowgirls performing as the opening act. General admission tickets are $10 each and may be purchased on the Western Fair website at: www.westernfair.com. Everyone is welcome – you won’t want to miss it. The mandate of the CQHA, a national affiliate of the AQHA, is to address issues of concern to Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; to be a communications vehicle for and with Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; and to promote and market, both globally and within Canada, Canadian-bred and/or Canadian-owned American Quarter Horses.
