Arizona National Livestock Show Awards $30,250 in College Scholarships

The Arizona National Livestock Show Scholarship Program began in 1991 by awarding $13,500.00 to eleven students in that year. Over 17 years later the Arizona National Livestock Show has now awarded 517 students totaling $520,659. The scholarship selection process has gone from annual to semi-annual and currently awards over $40,000 annually. The Scholarship Committee recently selected and awarded $30,250 in scholarships for the fall 2008 semester. Scholarship recipients will be honored at the 61st Arizona National Livestock Show Dedication December 28, 2008 at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.
The Fall 2008 Scholarship recipients are: Marcus Arnold of Panhandle, Texas attending Texas Tech University, majoring in Animal Science; Janette Barnard of Cochise, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Agriculture Economics; Brittany Choate of Gilbert, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Environmental Science and Agriculture Education; Hayley Garigan of Tucson, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Family Studies and Human Development; Lacey Garigan of Tucson, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Family Studies and Human Development; Katie Goodwin of Lake Havasu City, attending New Mexico State University, majoring in Animal Science and Pre-Vet; Tiffany Hayes of Tucson, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Animal Science; Holly Hogue of Willcox, attending Clarendon College, majoring in Animal Science; Candice Jonovich of Queen Creek, attending Arizona State University, majoring in Pre-Veterinarian, Jesus “Tony” Lopez of Tucson, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Science and Engineering; Colin Lowe of Chickasha, Oklahoma, attending Western Oklahoma State College, majoring in Agriculture Communications; Jennifer Martin of Tucson, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Agriculture Education; Clay Brody McGuire of Buckeye, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Animal Science; Margret Molever of Scottsdale, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Animal Science; Spencer Prosser of Winslow, attending Colorado State University, majoring in Agribusiness and Communications; Stephanie Strakbein of Oracle, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Veterinarian Science and Spanish; Laura Stump of Gilbert, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Animal Science; Katy White of Red Rock, attending Kansas State University, majoring in Animal Science; Avery Williams of Glendale, attending Arizona State University, majoring in Animal Science; Hunter Williams of Gilbert, attending Arizona State University, majoring in Aero Tech Management; Kayla Woehlecke of Red Rock, attending Central Arizona College, majoring in Agriculture Science; Amanda Deeann Zamudio of Elfrida, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Nursing; and Joseph Zamudio of Elfrida, attending University of Arizona, majoring in Agriculture Education.
Scholarships are available to students attending an accredited university or college for the current academic year. Other requirements include: High School graduation; completion of at least 12 semester hours before applying; currently taking at least 12 credit hours; a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (A = 4); and prior participation in the Arizona National Livestock Show as an exhibitor, volunteer, or employee.
Scholarships are funded through donations to the show with help from the Arizona Horse Lovers Foundation. Application deadlines are October 15 for the spring and March 15 for fall scholarships. Applications are available online at www.anls.org.
