Deeridge Farm Takes Top Spots in Jumpers at Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament

At last week's Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, some of the best junior and amateur jumper riders vied for ribbons and prize money. Deeridge Farm riders Charlotte and Joan Jacobs of East Aurora, NY, were two of those top competitors in the Low Junior/Amateur Jumper division. Deeridge Farm is based out of East Aurora, NY, and Wellington, FL.

Charlotte Jacobs (13) piloted Lawando to second place in the Low Junior/Amateur Jumper Time First Round class. The pair was also eighth in the Time First Jump-off class. Jacobs rode Ramone as well in the division. This was her first time competing indoors in the jumper division, and Jacobs has ridden Lawando for less than a year. They started out the winter in the Children's Jumpers, and this was only their second time competing in the Low Junior Jumpers.

Joan Jacobs and her nine-year-old jumper Boyke 2 were ninth in the same division for the Time First Jump-off class. In the $5,000 Low Junior/Amateur Grand Prix, the pair was third. They had no jumping faults in the first round, but just missed the jump-off with two time faults. Joan and Boyke had not competed together since the Kentucky National Horse Show in September.

"This was the first time he has jumped indoors," Joan Jacobs smiled. "He was very comfortable and relaxed. It was a tight time allowed, and I was focused on the technical part of the course. I didn't want to have to rush; I'm really happy he jumped clean, but I did want to jump-off!"

Both riders worked with Olympic gold medalist Joe Fargis. Jacobs stated, "He is the best. We had a great show."

Jacobs also felt that the atmosphere and preparation at the event itself helped. "This was as close to the Madison Square Garden National Horse Show as we could get. It really felt like the National Horse Show. The footing was fabulous, and it was a very inviting ring for the horses. It was probably the best my horse has jumped all year," she said.

Deeridge Farm has already moved their operations and horses to their farm in Florida, where they will prepare for the winter show season.
