The Northern Arizona Cutting Horse Association held an NCHA recognized cutting on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Prescott Livestock Auction in Chino Valley, AZ. The show was also a qualifier for the National Championships to be held next spring as well as being recognized by the Arizona Cutting Horse Association.

The 11 classes were officiated by Mr. Billy Cochrane of Sanger, CA and Mr. Will Nutall of Red Lodge, MT. Ms. Lindsay Mills of Chino Valley was the NCHA show secretary. Over 140 runs were made under the usual sunny Arizona skies. Class winners were treated to rustic barn wood picture frames with little shelves for displaying trophy buckles and trimmed with cowhide. The NACHA also added $2,500.00 to the payouts for the classes.

The Open Class was won by Scott Raftery riding “Zack Benny” owned by Brianna Edgemon to a score of 146 to take home $886.56. Raftery also took second place honors on Laura Jorde’s “Peppys Playful Oak” with a score of 143.

In the Non Pro Class, Laura Jorde saddled her “A Cat Named Hercules” and rode to a score of 147 for another nice paycheck of $922.10. Brianna Edgemon took the reins of her gelding “Zack Benny” to garner second place with a 145.5.

Diane Burns of Scottsdale laid down a super run in the $50,000. Amateur Class for a score of 74 and the win. In the $20,000 Non Pro, Cliff Schlosberg of Dewey rode his good mare “Skeeto Gal” to the win with a score of 72.

Winning the $3,000. Novice Horse Class for the second year in a row was Don Perkins, riding his own “Lena Cee Oak” to a score of 74.

The Youth Class was won handily by young Wyatt Hershberger riding “Diablo Tejon” to a 72 and making it look easy. Proud Dad and trainer Jason Hershberger was thrilled as well.

Ben Herman of Colorado Spring, CO riding his “Mighty Stylish Cat” won the $5,000 Novice Horse Non Pro with a score of 74 and the $15,000 Novice Horse Non Pro marking a 73.

Husband and wife duo Mark and Diane Raines also had a great show, each winning a class. Diane dominated the huge $2,000. Limit Rider class of 23 entries with a score of 73 on her pretty grey “Playgun Valentine”. Mark won the $10,000 Amateur Class riding his buckskin gelding “Temesun” with a score of 73.

The high score of the show came in the last class of the day. Ryan Else of Scottsdale rode “Sonita Holly Doc”, owned by John and Beth Sullivan, to a smoking score of 76 for a paycheck of $714.00.

The next club cutting for the NACHA is Sunday July 12, 2009 at the Prescott Livestock Auction. Books open at 8am and the show starts at 9am. Shows continue through October. For information go to www.nachacutting.com.
