The Tucson Arabian Classic Horse Show, formerly known as the Old Adobe Classic, will be held in April at Rillito Downs Race Park. The show is being held in cooperation with the Sabbar Shrine who are noted for their support of the national Shrine hospitals, which provide leading edge service for young orthopedic and burn patients at no cost.

The show will begin on Thursday, April 19th and runs through Saturday, April 21st. A variety of premiums will be offered including cash prizes, custom made saddles and silver belt buckles. A full range of Arabian horse competitions will be offered in three separate arenas especially designed for this event. Breeding horse classes, performance classes, Dressage, Cutting and Reining are being offered along with a full schedule of English and Western classes. Call (520) 760-0682 for a premium book.

On Friday, April 20th at 7 p.m. the Sabbar Shrine will host a benefit dinner and dance with live entertainment in the Rillito Clubhouse. The cost of the dinner is $18 per person. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Sabbar Shrine at (520) 624-2509 or the Arabian Horse Owners Foundation at (520) 760-0682. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the show office beginning Thursday, April 19th.

Immediately following the dinner, the Black Stallion Literacy Project will be presenting an Equestrian Extravaganza featuring Walter Farley's famous Arabian, the Black Stallion. Everyone raised with the magic of Walter Farley's books such as "Little Black, A Pony" and "The Black Stallion" knows how Farley was able to excite the imaginations of children of all ages. Now, the Black Stallion Literacy Project has combined the gift of hard cover copies of these great books with the first grade "hands on horses" literacy program and the fourth grade program, which encourages children to "stretch their imagination into the arts."

The magic of this celebration begins at 8 p.m. with over 1,400 local students in an event to kick off the Black Stallion Literacy project in their own schools. Enjoy this all ages show with a live performance by the Black Stallion and many other specially trained horses and their trainers. The show promises to be an evening of pure entertainment and enjoyment for the entire family! General admission tickets for the show are available through the Arabian Horse Owners Foundation at (520) 760-0682 or at the show office beginning Thursday, April 19th.

Admission to the horse show and parking at the show grounds is FREE to all

spectators.
