Summer Coconino County Horse Trials

The Summer Coconino County Horse Trials will be held on August 17th, 18th and 19th. A slight change from what was printed in the USCTA's Omnibus. The change to add an extra day, is to accommodate this years running of the Chronicle of the Horse magazine Adult Team Championships.

The many activities planned so far are as follows: Friday- Dressage tests and Jumper schooling rounds. Saturday- Cross-Country jumping, Stall decorating contest and dinner party. Sunday- Show Ring jumping and award ceremony. Prize money will be given to winners of Open Intermediate, Open Preliminary, and Open Training divisions. The Chronicle of the Horse will be awarding the Adult Team Championship horse coolers for the Novice, Training, and Preliminary divisions. Plus, prize money for the best stall decorations. Traditionally, the Baby Novice division has not been included in the Adult Team Championships. This year however, Stardust Companies has graciously agreed to sponsor embroidered saddle pads for those Adult Team Champions just getting started in the sport.

Judges for the event will be Pres. Joanna M Herrigstad, of WA; Shirley Rector, of AZ; and Mary Kay Broyles, of AZ. The Organizing Committee: Alice Sarno, Amy Barrington and Nathan Martin, have been successfully hosting this annual event for over ten years.

Spectators are welcome and the best part is, it's free (except for the dinner party). Dinner party tickets will be on sale at the show office. Just drive north on I-17 till the temperature becomes bearable. Take the Pullman Airport exit (about 5 miles south of Flagstaff). Then follow the signs to the Coconino County Fairgrounds.

Just a reminder (spectators) - this is a serious competition and a very demanding sport. The horse and rider always have the right of way.
