Mel Coleman Inducted into Canada's Pro-Rodeo Hall-of-Fame by Tracy E. Wager

History will be made on September 15th when five larger-than-life Rodeo legends are inducted into Canada's Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. This auspicious event will be held at the Western Heritage Center in Canada. The distinguished list of recipients in 2001 are; Mel Coleman, Robin Burwash, Steve Dunham, Dick Nash, and Bill Kehler.

Arizona is proud to have Mel Coleman call our state home. At 45 years of age, Mel still actively competes in Rodeo and Roping competitions throughout our territory and nationwide.

Mel Coleman made history winning seven Saddle Bronc Championships during 1974-1989, a Canadian record. Mel also achieved greatness when he tied cowboy Tom Bew's record of five All-Around Awards, starting in 1978. Coleman started his rodeo career out with a bang when he won the Saddle Bronc competition at the Calgary Stampede when he was only an 18-year-old rookie. That first win is still the highlight of his career!

Today, Mel still holds the record for most all-around, high point and major titles in Canada, 12 to be exact.

Mel Coleman resides in Phoenix, where he and his wife Jennifer own and operate C & H Haybarn.
