Grant McMaster on Smokin' Joe Hollywood - Grant was Overall Champion at July Match
It's September once again it is time for our 2nd Annual Cowboy Ball and Elections of Officers. This year it will be held on September 29, 2001 in the Sunset Room at Rawhide, Scottsdale, AZ. There will be Costume Contests again and this year's categories will be: Men's & Lady's Ballroom Category, Men's Outlaw and Saloon Girl Category, as well as the Working Cowboy and Working Cowgirl Category. Last year we had a wonderful turnout and an even better time. For information on this year's gala affair, contact Linnette Ramirez-Olson at 602-999-4065. The Monthly Match at Desert Hills Equine Center, held on Saturday, July 21st, 2001, went very well. It was a hot day, but being under the covered arena helped a lot. This month we had a lot of spectators, who are always welcome to come and watch and make lots of noise! We love it!

Bits & Pieces This match had a nice twist to it that led to a really fun ending. T.C. Thorstenson, ACMSA Board of Director, had sent out a challenge to all members of the club. The challenge went like this: "If any ACMSA member, who is not a board member, can beat me at this match, they can dunk me in the water trough!" Well, the problem with this is that T.C. 'never misses' (well, almost never!) Therefore the rest of the ACMSA Officers and Board of Directors thought it was only fair if T.C. had a tiny handicap. They wouldn't even tell him what the handicap would be until he rode into the arena and saw that all of the balloons were the size of eggs (they are normally 10"-11"). Poor T.C.! Well guess what? He missed one and then someone was able to beat him!!! T.C. was allowed to remove his guns and belt before he took a serious dunking in the main water trough which had had 30 pounds of ice added to it, just for the occasion. T.C. was a wonderful sport about the water and the ice (even though he was overheard saying that he hates the cold!). Way to Cowboy up T.C. This year our club is again hosting the GREAT GUN GIVE AWAY for year end points awards. The guns are being supplied and co-sponsored by Cimarron Firearms. This means that we have 15 guns to 'Give Away' at the end of the year. There will be one gun given to each of the following: Overall High Point Cowboy & Cowgirl, Reserve High Point Cowboy & Cowgirl, and to the High Point winners of each of the following Class Divisions; Class 1 - 5 Cowboy & Class 1 - 5 Cowgirl and Senior Divisions. To qualify, you need to be an ACMSA club member and have competed in at least 5 club-sanctioned events during the 2001 calendar year. The High Point total will be derived from the best 10 matches of each member at the end of the year. By the way, the State Championship on November 23 - 25, 2001 will count toward the High Point total. We are expecting 150 riders to enter that event. This means that the race is far from over to win these guns. If you are interested in joining ACMSA, be sure to act NOW, the timing couldn't be better. Once again, ACMSA has a wonderful opportunity for anyone to win a $2,500 Custom Made Saddle in a raffle. The drawing will be at the State Championships on November 25, at the Award Ceremony. If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket, contact James Sturgeon at 602-237-4889.
