Wins Award as Best Western Mounted Unit by Louise Gandert Miniature horses walked, trotted, and pranced their way into the hearts of onlookers at the Parada del Sol, Saturday February 2nd. Parade watchers were treated to a wonderful variety of horses pulling a delightful array of vehicles. Everything was there, from a miniature wagon with a massive Anatolian Shepherd in its bed (driven by Roger and Charlotte McClanahan) to a Roman centurion (David Decker) in a chariot, to delight spectators. Mr. Decker kept a stoic expression throughout befitting his role of Roman soldier complete with sword, shield and authentic uniform. Doreen Armstrong drove a striking antique carriage with lovely wooden wheels and fenders. Linda and Bob Smith had a smooth ride behind their double team in a four wheel carriage of gleaming black. Driving easy entry carts were Ron and JoAnne Souza, Jim Schlink, Michelle Perryman, and John Votca, Louise Gandert, new president of the MHAA, led the club's prancing raffle horse, Sterling. He certainly seemed to enjoy the applause and admiration of the audience. Roz Sommerville, Phyllis Votca, Patricia Hamm, Sharon Sanders and Erin Schlink proudly carried the Club Banner. Along with the many wonderful horses and carriages were John Armstrong, Patrick Perryman, and Bill Moschgat who smiled, walked and waved. It was a strong turnout for the MHAA and they were rewarded with the prize for Best Western Mounted Unit. | ||
