ARIZONA HAS NEW AMHA REGIONAL DIRECTOR

Fred Horcher

Finally Arizona has a regional director for AMHA. Arizona's region includes all of California, Utah , and Nevada. Most often in the Regional elections, the membership in California is so much greater, so the vote goes to their members. However, this time luck was on our side and Fred Horcher of LaVeen has been selected for Region 9. Fred has recently moved to Arizona, so many of our members do not know him personally. Perhaps this quick synopsis will introduce him to all.

Fred was born in Germany in 1935. His career began working as an apprentice cook and confectioner. He attended trade school for three years in Frankfurt, Germany, and worked the following four years as a chef in the trade. Fred left for the USA in 1956 and started working for Van de Kamps in Los Angles. Fred remained with that company for 34 years. Fred re-located in Washington state where he enjoyed sailing and his Dutch Warmblood horses. In Washington, he worked at Trident Seafood Corporation as Director of Research and Development and Corporate Chef on Anacortez Island until retirement. During that time Fred gradually got out of the 'big' horses and successfully switched over to Miniatures. In 1989, Fred showed in single and multiple hitch classes and was three times National Champion. Fred participated in the Rose Parade many times and in 1999 was invited to participate in Equitana USA in Louisville, Kentucky. At the 2001 National Miniature Show in Fort Worth, Texas, Fred won the National Championship in Antique Vehicle Driving with his newly purchased Miniature, Little Bit of Spring. His entry was pulling a circus cart! Fred's championship picture graces the front cover of the club's calendar for 2002. We are so delighted to have Fred Horcher as an active member of our local club. For the Touch of Class show, Fred coordinated the music for the classes. Fred is a member of the MHAA and is on the Board of Directors. We are so delighted that Fred is a part of the Arizona Miniature Horse Club, not only because of his new directorship, but he is outgoing, interesting, a great volunteer, and brings the most wonderful, delectable gourmet dishes to our potlucks!!
