SPOTLIGHT: EQUESTRIAN OF THE MONTH

Beginning this month AHJA will feature a different member each month in this new column so that everyone can get to know the wonderful members of AHJA. This month's feature member is Francie Olson.

Francie Olson

AHJA member Francie Olson is a retired flight attendant for America West Airlines who competes in the Adult Amateur Hunter and Equitation divisions with her horse Lexington Avenue. Francie grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she rode hunters and jumpers as a junior and foxhunted with the Battle Creek Hunt Club.

Francie and her husband Mark share their passion for riding and they frequently ride Francie's retired hunter Madison Avenue and Mark's horse Major on trail rides accompanied by their two black and tan coon hounds Annie and Dixie. Mark recently began learning how to jump so the two can attend some foxhunts this coming fall.

Francie's other interests are skiing, hiking, scuba diving, and sea kayaking. Francie and Mark travel quite a bit and have taken some equestrian trips including excursions to Portugal on the Blue Coast located on the southern Atlantic coastline, the Loire Valley in France where they rode through the grounds of such famous castles as Chambord, and a Kenya Safari on horseback thru the Masai Mara.
