Arizona Kids Head to Texas for the Youth World Show August 2nd-10th | ||||

by Carol Whittaker A lifetime goal for many kids owning, or even just loving quarter horses, is to go the AQHYA World Championship Show and Convention in Texas. Although I've never been, the event is always described as 'awesome,' 'cool,' and 'the best.' While intense show ring competition is a main event, AQHA offers many opportunities for kids to shine. In addition to traditional AQHA show classes, the youth worlds and convention offer competitions in talent contests, state scrapbook, speech, horse bowl (horse jeopardy here we come), stall decorations and horse judging. So, if you think the AQHYA World Show is just about show ring classes think again! In fact, Arizona Quarter Horse Youth Association has won or placed in the speech contest, scrapbook competition, as well as show ring classes. It does take dedication, hard work and talent to be part of Arizona's youth team. The AQHYA World Show is a 'qualifying event,' that means that you need to do more than just pay your way to show, you have to prove you're competitive. There are two ways that kids qualify to be part of Arizona's team. Horse and rider combination can 'qualify nationally,' which means to earn enough points in Quarter Horse shows to meet the minimum point standards set by AQHA; also for youth who don't haul to shows outside the state, the top two horse/rider combinations in each event qualify to represent Arizona at the Youth World Show. The Arizona Quarter Horse Association (AzQHA) is proud to support the Arizona Youth Team, and the AQHYA World Show. AzQHA sponsors the youth team by offering an annual grant to pay entry fees and stalls for Arizona youth. Additionally, AzQHA is a national sponsor for the youth trail class. Kids and horses are good for each other!..Go Team Go, and most of all, have fun and learn!
