Willard Arthur Rhodes

AQHA Director Emeritus Willard Arthur Rhodes, 97 of Southern Pines, North Carolina, passed away on September 16, 2017, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Born on October 18, 1919, in Bellingham, Massachusetts, to the late Arthur and Mildred Rhodes, Willard was a horseman. He had a love of horses from a young age and went on to be very active with the American Quarter Horse Association throughout the years. He loved sports but especially the Boston Red Sox. His career spanned from working in the family business with draft horses in the lumber mill to being one of the largest producers of cranberries and finally becoming a real estate developer.
In addition to his parents, Willard was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Shove (Lyman) and one brother, Norman.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Claire Watts Rhodes; one sister, Phyllis Rhodes; one daughter, Donna Jeffers (Robert); three step-children, Shawn Watts, Tracy Washington (Angelo) and Leah Watts; also survived by nie grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
